Stagename (stagename.me) is run by Unit 4 Media Ltd, company number 09972217, registered office Kemp House, 152–160 City Road, London EC1V 2NX, United Kingdom. In these pages “we”, “us” and “Stagename” mean Unit 4 Media Ltd; “you” means the person who signs up.
Unit 4 Media Ltd is the data controller for personal data processed through Stagename. This notice explains what we collect, why, and your rights under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).
What we collect
- Account details: your name, email address and phone number.
- Domain registration details: your name, postal address, email address and phone number (and company name, if you give one), which domain registries require to register a domain in your name. We collect nothing more than they require: no date of birth or ID.
- Your page content: the photos, links, bio and display name you add.
- Payment information: handled by Stripe. We receive confirmation of payment and limited card details (such as the last four digits); we never see or store your full card number.
- Usage and analytics: visits to your page, clicks on your links and referring sites, recorded without identifying individual visitors.
- Support messages you send us.
Why we use it and our lawful basis
- To provide the service you signed up for: registering your domain, publishing your page, running your email and taking payment (contract).
- To register your domain in your name, as the rules of every domain registry and ICANN require (contract and legal obligation).
- To check uploaded photos are safe for work and keep the service lawful and safe (legitimate interests and legal obligation).
- To send service emails such as receipts, renewal reminders and security notices (contract).
- To keep financial records (legal obligation).
- To send product news, only if you opt in (consent, which you can withdraw at any time).
Who we share it with
Your domain registration details. When you pay, we send your domain registration details to our registrar, Openprovider (Hosting Concepts B.V., the Netherlands), which passes them to the registry that runs your domain ending (for example Verisign for .com, or Nominet for .co.uk and .uk), as registering a domain requires. You are the registrant, the domain's legal holder. Registries and registrars keep these details for as long as the domain is registered and for a period afterwards under their own rules and ICANN's. Where the ending allows, we switch on WHOIS privacy so your name, address, email and phone number aren't shown in public WHOIS look-ups; for .uk, Nominet withholds individuals' addresses itself. Some endings don't allow privacy, and registries and registrars may still disclose registration details to people with a lawful reason, such as police or someone with a trademark claim. The registrar may also email you once to confirm your email address. The administrative, technical and billing contacts for your domain are Stagename's own, so fewer copies of your details are made.
We share personal data only with the providers we need to run Stagename, under contracts that protect it: our domain registrar and the relevant domain registries; Stripe (payments); Netlify (hosting of stagename.me); Cloudflare (hosting of creator sites, security and email forwarding); our email delivery provider; and the AI provider that powers our support assistant (OpenAI or Anthropic), which receives the messages you type into the support chat or send to support, but not your payment details. Some of these providers process data outside the UK; where they do, transfers are protected by UK-approved safeguards such as the International Data Transfer Addendum or an adequacy decision. We never sell your data.
How long we keep it
We keep account and page data while your subscription is active and for up to 90 days after it ends so you can come back or move your domain, then delete it. Once your domain is registered, we keep only your name, email address and country with your order; your address and phone number are held by the registrar, not by us. If you start checkout but don't pay, we delete the domain registration details and photos you entered after 7 days. We keep billing records for 6 years as required by UK tax law. Our payment provider, Stripe, receives your email and payment details but not your address or phone number from us.
Your rights
You can ask to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your data, and object to or restrict how we use it. Email hello@stagename.me and we will respond within one month. If you are unhappy with how we handle your data you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
